Condolences

Condolence From: Richard Carlisle
Condolence: Cathy was a dear friend and was quick to be a comfort and a good friend at a moments notice. She actively prayed for my brother Kevin who passed from esophageal cancer this passed July. Cathy always had a big smile and a bigger heart. I will always be grateful I was fortunate enough that our paths crossed and Cathy was one of my blessings in life and now another angel watching over me in this crazy world

Condolence From: Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Gray
Condolence: Our dearest Cathy,
The first time we met you was at Aaron's surprise birthday party in 2006. We didn't even know you yet, but you were willing to cross the border to celebrate a special birthday with us, and you were immediately family.

Every year as we returned to Buffalo, you were there. We had our "gang" of dear, wonderful friends. You were a TRUE friend, when so few exist in this day and age. Not only would you come to the party, but you'd be one of the first to arrive and you'd shut the place down with us...and then you'd see which additional days we were free in order to take us out to an Irish pub or just sit around and chat. You encouraged our performances as well, and you were such an amazing human being. You also respected me so much, always asking making sure that vegetarian options were available on the menu, and making sure that I could have a Blue or two.

You were there when we lost Aaron's mom from smoking, and you were there when my parents became ill--you always asked about them. You were kind and thoughtful, and even offered to check in on an aunt and uncle in Clarence when the power was out (as we sat worrying in LA...) You were there as part of our Buffalo family for the arrivals of Penny and Rigby Lane, and you shared in my excitement as I defended my dissertation. You even cried as you read the dedications in my published book, and you always talked up a storm about Aaron's gifts as a musician.

My heart is so very heavy with the loss of you, yet I praise God for allowing us to have this angel. You made my "bosom buddy, close friend and lifelong pal" Matt smile more than I had ever seen, which made my heart happy. I loved all of our chats and laughs, our Boathouse nights and Ulrich's Tavern and your very first Dream Theater concert, and--of course--going out afterward for a bite at The Olympic.

My last memory of us together was chatting the night away on our 11th anniversary, and celebrating at midnight with you. I wish that there was more time, but I feel blessed that I was able to speak with you one last time to tell you all that had to be said. We love you so much, and you will be missed. I always called you "my girl Cathy", and it was true--you will always be that to us.

I pray for your family to have strength during this time, and we promise to always be here for Matt and his daughter. That's what friends do...that's what FAMILY does. You will always be family.

We will miss your hugs and your warm, genuine personality, but you will always be alive in our hearts. God bless all of you.

Much love always,
Dr. Patti Gray (I know how you loved that!), Aaron Gray, Chaos, Serenity and Taiko
