Edward Michael Thomas, 90, of Homosassa, FL, passed away on Fri., Sept. 18, 2015 at his home. A native of Buffalo, NY, he was born June 23, 1925 to Edward C. and Elenora C. (Franz) Thomas, one of four children. Mr. Thomas was a retired executive with the former New York Telephone Co., now part of Verizon, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Edward proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1943 to 1946 and moved to Homosassa permanently in 1993 from Grand Island, NY. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church in Homosassa and was a former member of Sugarmill Woods Golf and Country Club, where he enjoyed both playing golf and playing bridge. Mr. Thomas is survived by his son, Michael Thomas, Homosassa, FL; two sisters: Julia Lendel (husband Edward), of North Tonawanda, NY and Venice, FL and Karen Jurczak (husband Joseph) of Tonawanda, NY. Edward was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Marie R. Thomas, on Aug. 26, 2015; a daughter, Deborah Marie Thomas in 1991 and a brother, Earl Thomas. Friends will be received on Mon., Sept. 27, 2015 from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. at Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa with a rosary at 2:00 P.M. followed by a wake servce at 2:30 P.M. officiated by Deacon Sam Hunt. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tues., Sept. 29, 2015 from St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church with Fr. Ronald Marecki, Celebrant. U.S. Navy military honors will follow the mass. Visitation will then take place on Thurs., Oct, 1, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at C. Mertz and Son Funeral Home, Kenmore, NY with Mass of Christian Burial celebrated on Fri., Oct. 2, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. from St. Stephens Catholic Church, Grand Island, NY. Interment will follow at St. Stephens Cemetery.
