Gibb, Evelyn M., 91, passed away peacefully on Mar. 17, 2017, at the Humboldt House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Evelyn was born on July 3, 1925, to George and Janeva Smith in Buffalo, New York. Evelyn graduated from Bennett High School with honors. She married her husband, John C. Gibb, on March 31, 1951. They were married for seventeen years until his death in 1968.
Evelyn served as a bank trust administrator for Liberty National Bank until her retirement in 1987. She is remembered by many as always upbeat. She loved great conversation and music and had a passion for opera. She was an active member of OperaBuffs of Western New York., and the Greater Buffalo Opera Company. Evelyn enjoyed the friendship of many of the residents of the Maryvale East Senior Community in Cheektowaga, New York until December of 2010 when she moved to assisted living.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, June (Donald A.) Miller of the Town of Tonawanda, NY. and nieces and nephews, Claudia M. (Richard) Jones of Williamsville, NY, Michael G. (Sallie) Miller of Chicago, IL, Anne M. Castioni of Carmel, NY, Joan C. Hillgardner of Syosset, NY, Thomas J. Hillgardner of Jamaica, NY, Carol A. (Patrick) Pequet of Katy, TX, Kathleen A. Smith of Bloomfield Hills, MI, and Alan R. (Cheryl) Smith of Longmont, CO, and many grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John, sister, Pearl K. Hillgardner, and brother, Robert G. Smith. A Celebration of Evelyn's Life is planned for Friday, July 21, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Tonawanda, NY. Information will be posted on the web site for the C.
