My prayerful support for Janet and the Hasselbeck family on the passing a truly great man. All of us in the extended Jesuit community both here at St. Michael’s and St. Ann’s faithful parishioners have lost a true legend and inspiration. I had the privilege of meeting Nelson during the annual Novena of a Grace several years ago and declared him the Hall of Fame Novena attendee at 90 years. He was truly our link to a forgotten Buffalo, St Ann’s Parish, the old German Jesuit fathers and a faith life that inspired a generation.
I will remember Nelson at Masses this week here at St. Michael’s. We will
Miss him at the 120 th Novena in March 2020.

The many years spent at Bay Beach in Canada. Card games on the hill. Nelson loved scuba diving and would find many anchors and interesting things to bring home. One day he stopped by with a small fishing pole that had my name written on it. I had carelessly dropped it into the water near the Crystal Beach pier when I was around 12 years old. Nelson brought it to the house maybe 30 years later and said..did you lose this? Thanks Nelson, you were a wonderful person and great friend to our family. Heartfelt condolences to the Hasselbeck family.
