Allen Jr., John Edward - October 2, 2014 - Beloved husband of Cynthia (nee Etchey) Allen. Devoted son of the late John E. Sr. and Lucille (nee Fierek) Allen. Loving brother of Judy (Kirk) Stapleton and Cathy (Jeff) Miller. Uncle of many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Visitation will be held at the C. Mertz and Son Funeral Home, Inc. 911 Englewood Ave. Friday October 10th from 3-6 PM to be followed by a Memorial Service at 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials in John's memory may be made to Erie County SPCA or the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter. John and Cyndy were married for 36 years plus 4 (it was the '70's folks). John graduated from the University of Toledo with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1978. He worked as an engineer at Edward C. Levy, Olin, and American Brass. He was the City Administrator of Hicksville, Ohio 1983-1985. For the last 15 years John had his own business, Allen Restorations. He worked to make our corner of the world a better place by being involved in the Kleinhans Community Association, serving as President for several years, and by restoring Victorian properties and saving one from the wrecking ball, thereby helping to preserve the Allentown Preservation District housing stock. He was an urban pioneer in the wild west atmosphere of Allentown's west side in the'90's and proud to take a stand and help to reclaim our neighborhood. He is sadly missed by Cyndy his wife and best friend, his loving family, many friends, the band of urban pioneers in our 'hood, and his faithful fur kids Fiona and Rosey, and Bertie the dove. John was a kind, caring, and gentle man who helped others. His final thoughts were that he was a lucky man and had a good life, and our problem was that we had too much fun. He is reunited with loved ones and our dog pack Bandit, Maxine, Isabelle, and his childhood buddy Gegot. Please share condolences at mertzfh.com
